Unit Title: Physiognomy Key Concepts: Identity Global Context: Identities and Relationships Unit Overview Students will examine the pseudoscience of physiognomy where the belief that a person's appearance can tell something about their personal characteristics. We will then look at ways we make judgements about people and their identity. We will examine social issues such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and ageism and how people make judgements based on someone's outside appearance. We will then develop skills and techniques using drypoint printmaking to create a self portrait that combines the physical characteristics of an animal which students think best represents them either physically or mentally.
