Unit Title: Rube Goldberg Machines Key Concepts: Change Global Context: Scientific and Technical Innovation Unit Overview Students will learn about the Industrial Revolution and how this revolution has drastically changed the course of the world and how people live. We will learn how artists respond to change through their artwork. One artist that we will examine is Rube Goldberg who was an American cartoonist, engineer and inventor. Goldberg is best known for his series of popular cartoons that depicts complicated gadgets performing simple tasks as a way to poke fun at the rapidly complex world that the industrial revolution brought about. Students will develop ways they can make their own Rube Goldberg Machine inspired cartoon using humour, creative thinking skills, and science. Students must communicate with one another to make sure their cartoons not only visually line up with their partners work, but also made sense!
